This week is #mentalhealthawarenessweek and I'm proud to be supporting this year's campaign "move more for mental health".
Everyone can get the mental health benefits of moving more, it’s all about finding what works for you. When life’s busy, it can be tricky finding time for wellbeing-boosting activities. But finding moments for movement might be easier than you think. Why not use the time you spend waiting to move more?
Every day this week I'm going to be sharing my top tips for really easy ways to squeeze a little more movement into your day.
Research by the Mental Health Foundation shows that more than a third of UK adults find it challenging to find the time for movement.
My first tip is to get out for a walk. Walking is such an easy an accessible activity for everybody, no matter your fitness level. You don't even need to go for a long walk - just a short 10-15 minutes is enough to get some fresh air, get your body moving and boost your mental health.
Why not grab a friend and turn it into a catch up? You could always plan a walk to a local coffee shop to round off your walk.
Or maybe you just need a little bit of "me time". Whack your headphones in with your favourite music and feel time slip away as you walk.
Or maybe you'd rather skip the music and simply listen to the bird song and nature sounds near you. Walking can also be a great meditative activity.
You don't need any special equipment, nor much time, so why not get outside and grab an extra few steps in to benefit both your physical and mental health this week?
