It is FAR to hot to be exercising...

If you don't take precautions.

As we yo-yo between cold and hot weather in this country, we don't get much time to acclimatise. Summer is often the time when our fitness comes to the fore. Whether that's hang ups about how we look in our clothes, or wanting to make sure we are fit enough to engage in the activities we enjoy most.

So here are my top 3 hot weather tips to keep you moving and maintain your fitness during the summer months...

  1. Pop your water bottle in the fridge (or even freezer!) at least a couple of hours before you leave the house so you have cold water to sip during class. If you have an insulated bottle which won't benefit from being in the fridge, simply chill your water in an old plastic or pop bottle, then transfer it to your insulated bottle before you head out (or, pop a few ice cubes in!). Make sure to sip water regularly and even bring extra during the Summer months as we lose more moisture from sweating which increases the risk of becoming dehydrated

  2. For an icy refresh, pop a wet flannel into the freezer then bring the frozen flannel with you to class to cool you down as it defrosts (a cool bag or similar might be required to keep it from defrosting too early)

  3. Modify your movement and reduce your intensity if necessary. The easiest way to do this is to simply remove any high impact (jumping) elements in routines or make your movements smaller. Look out for any modifications given during the class and know that during any excessive heat, routines will be modified to suit.
