Active Travel - can you get there another way?

For this year's mental health awareness week, I've been sharing a few tips on how your can find more movement within your week to boost your mood and boost your energy levels.

Today's topic is active travel.

What is active travel?

Active travel is the idea of using your body to get you from A to B and there are lots of different ways we can be physically active with travel.

This could incorporate walking, cycling, running.... or if you're feeling a little more kooky - scootering or skateboarding! Anything that utilises your own body's energy to propel you can count.

It doesn't have to be a long journey either. It could be something as simple as getting off the bus one stop early and walking the rest of the way, or maybe cycling to grab that extra pint of milk instead of taking the car.

Catch up with friends or family whilst taking the dog for a walk?

Find a pub lunch on a cycle path and bike your way there?

It's likely to take you longer than by car or bus, but with a bit of forward planning, incorporating the odd bit of active travel into your lifestyle can really help to burn calories, aid weight loss and boost your mood!
